Siepi Case 2019 - Toscana IGT
Siepi, owned by Mazzei family since 1435, has always been a model farm, still managed today with the same kind of respect. A unique location, a special microclimate, the foresight in the early 1980s to plant Merlot as the ideal grape to complement Sangiovese in a very particular "terroir" produce a wine which is perfectly balanced between elegance, power and complexity.

It was a forerunner, in 1995, of Gran Selezione category; it's a Cru of Sangiovese coming from 11 parcels surrounding the Fonterutoli hamlet, in the Castellina in Chianti municipality. The real "Château" of the estate.
In Fonterutoli, the quintessence of our research on Sangiovese resides in an experimental vineyard, planted at the end of the 90s in ideal pedoclimatic conditions for Sangiovese: 36 different biotypes of Sangiovese, including 18 massal selections coming from our old vineyards. A cutting edge agronomical project creates a pure-bred Sangiovese, a unique wine that includes "Cru", "Monovarietal" and "Blend".

This wine is dedicated to Philip Mazzei (1730-1816), an illustrious ancestor of the family, political thinker, American Patriot and pioneer, together with Thomas Jefferson, of the viticulture in Virginia. Made with a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon selected from our estates, Philip is the quintessence of Tuscany. "The great doctrine ‘All men are created equal’, incorporated into the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson, was paraphrased from the writings of Philip Mazzei, an Italian-born patriot, and close friend of Jefferson’s." (JFK, "A Nation of Immigrants")
It comes from vineyards located at a great altitude in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, around a Romanesque church dating back to the 10th century.
